Why Mercer Atlanta?
The Lofts at Mercer Atlanta represents the continuation of a long-standing partnership between Mercer University and AREY. Since 2009, AREY has partnered with Mercer on 8 projects consisting of 539 units and 1,281 beds, representing a total capital investment of approximately $200MM.
Through their partnership with AREY, Mercer was able to provide much needed housing to students on the Atlanta campus which is undergoing a multi-year transformation as Mercer expands its offerings in Atlanta and upgrades its facilities in the region.
Project Overview
The project, which is the first purpose-built student housing asset on the Mercer Atlanta campus, required close coordination with the University in order to ensure that the end product met the needs of the students and also fit into the overall vision for the Atlanta campus as it continues to grow.
In addition to the residential component, the project also contains ~13,000 SF of retail that caters to the residents and surrounding community. Dekalb County provided incentives including a tax abatement which allowed the project to move forward.

- Mercer has had a campus in Atlanta for 60+ years.
- 48% of the 2,644 total degrees – and 2/3 of non-Bachelor’s degrees – conferred by Mercer in 2022-23 were granted to graduates of the Atlanta campus.
- Mercer’s Atlanta campus is home to the College of Pharmacy, College of Health Professions, School of Theology, College of Nursing and College of Professional Advancement. It also houses programs of the School of Business and College of Education.
- Recent investments in the Atlanta campus include:
- $36.8MM Moye Pharmacy and Health Sciences building opened in 2023.
- Renovation of 18,500 SF of space to expand labs for the College of Pharmacy’s rapidly growing research activities.
- $2MM interior renovation of the Swilley Library.
